Benefits of Valeda Photobiomodulation

Prevent Blindness due to Dry Macular Degeneration.

Photobiomodulation (PBM) is a promising therapy for dry age-related macular degeneration (AMD) that uses specific wavelengths of light to stimulate cellular function and promote tissue repair. While research is ongoing, here are the key benefits PBM may offer for dry AMD:

Clinical Evidence

  • Early trials studies, suggest PBM can provide benefits for people with early-to-intermediate dry AMD.
  • The LumiThera Valeda Light Delivery System has been approved in some regions for treating dry AMD.

Improves Retinal Blood Flow

  • Studies suggest PBM may enhance choroidal circulation, delivering more oxygen and nutrients to the retina.
  • This could help in maintaining retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) function, which is essential for vision.

Supports Cellular Repair and Regeneration

  • PBM has been shown to promote photoreceptor survival and improve RPE function, possibly preventing further vision loss.

Improvement in Vision

  • Some clinical trials report improvements in contrast sensitivity, visual acuity, and color vision, although results vary.
"We are one of the first retina practices in the US to get this technology and we intend to help a lot of struggling patients.”
