SUMMARY
The Front Desk Receptionist answers the telephone according to practice protocol and properly routes and triages messages as needed. The Front Desk Receptionist registers patients in a friendly, professional, timely and efficient manner. The Front Desk Receptionist properly verifies and updates all patient demographics, HIPAA and insurance information. The Front Desk Receptionist collects from the patient any past-due balances, deductibles and insurance co-pays and out-of-pocket charges as needed. The Front Desk Receptionist is responsible for all patient insurance eligibility, referrals and authorizations as needed. On a daily basis, this position is responsible for the accurate end-of-day patient, cash and insurance reconciliation, including missing ticket reports. The Front Desk Receptionist schedules appointments according to the provider template. The Front Desk Receptionist ensures that all recalls are completed in a timely manner.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED required
One year experience as a Medical Receptionist required
One year experience in Ophthalmology preferred
One-year experience with collection of co-pays, deductibles, non-covered services, past due balances, insurance eligibility, referrals and properly obtaining authorizations, etc. preferred
PREFERENCE TO PRIOR EXPERIENCE WITH ADVANCEDMD/Nextech
Essential Skills & Abilities:
Must have proficient computer skills
Must have excellent telephone skills
Must have outstanding customer service skills
Must have a complete hands-on working knowledge of the practice scheduling and billing software
Must have an understanding of Medicare, Medicaid and Commercial Insurance
Must have a working knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT codes for ophthalmology
Must be able to problem solve
Must be detailed oriented
Must have the ability to collect past-due balances from patients as needed
Must have excellent communication skills, proper grammar and writing capability
Must have a working knowledge of all forms associated with the patient medical record (paper and electronic)
Must be team-oriented
Must be self-directed, highly motivated, able to multi-task, work under pressure in a fast paced environment
Must be able to accurately and efficiently handle multiple projects at one time
Must have exceptional interpersonal skills
Must possess a caring, patient and friendly attitude
Must have an understanding of ophthalmic terminology, spelling and pronunciation
Must have a general understanding of ophthalmic diseases

JOB DESCRIPTION
Ophthalmic practice seeks experienced ophthalmic technician for working up patients, performing diagnostics, assisting physician in patient examinations and scribing. Some duties include technician work ups, exam room setup, preparation of patients for exam, assisting physician during exam as needed, performing various testing procedures, and assisting in minor procedures with the physician.
Patient work-up, tonometry, OCT, Fundus Photo, Visual Field, Angiograms, A-Scans/ Optical Biometry and assisting in minor procedures. Requires at least one year experience within an eye care practice (or degree/certification). Job requirements include experience in PC proficiency, good organizational skills and detail oriented. Experience is preferred in AdvancedMD and Nextech MDIntellysis (our practice management system and EHR system). We pride ourselves with customer service- must be friendly and compassionate. We desire someone who will work diligently and aspire to grow within the practice.
